Plot summary
Michael Hill comes to New Campton with his two children to take up the pulpit of the North Avenue Presbyterian Church. Anne, the church secretary and music director, doubts his wish to draw the congregation into the church's work. He puts Rose Rafferty in charge of the congregation's sinking fund, and her husband Delaney, a gambler, stakes the $1,206 on a horse race. Rose takes Hill to a bookie behind Sam the Tailor's dry-cleaning shop, where Harry the Hat talks of letting the bet ride; the horse loses and Hill is thrown out. That night he denounces organized crime on local television. Treasury agents Marvin Fogleman and Tom Voohries enlist his help against the gambling racket, and having found no men willing, he turns to women from the congregation.

Disney wrecked fourteen brand-new cars, worth $155,000, for the demolition derby that ends the film. Shooting took in the Burbank studio and 42 locations around Los Angeles, from Long Beach to Pasadena and Newhall.- The story came from real life: Don Tait's screenplay was drawn from the memoir of the Reverend Albert Fay Hill, who took on the mob in New Rochelle, New York during the 1960s. British cinemas showed the film under the title Hill's Angels.
