Plot summary
As a girl, Ja-young was scarred by inappropriate contact from an adult, and she now moves between traditional Korean customs and Western ones without a firm sense of which behavior with young men is right. She plays the flute and has become a talented musician with a fiancé. Her mother, angry that Ja-young's father had a child out of wedlock, regards sex as a sin and raised her daughter under an exceedingly oppressive set of beliefs. The pressure of that upbringing has left Ja-young unable to act on her own will. The men who approach her make their advances by fondling her knees, and her family has its own share of problems.
