Plot summary
Mary Linden works the reception desk at a paper milling company, where her grasp of the industry, the mill and its clients gives her a hand in decisions far above her job title. She is in love with James Duneen, one of the salesmen, and when the company president, Ritter, nears retirement, she works the company's politics to help James win important sales and the top job. James is thankful for her help and blind to her feelings, preferring the party girl type, and he hires his latest companion, Daisy, to work in the office under Mary. Ronnie Wales, wealthy and estranged from his wife, pursues Mary, and she turns down his advances.
