Henry Roquemore

Henry Roquemore was an American character actor who worked mainly in bit parts, appearing in 229 silent and sound films between 1927 and 1943. Born in Marshall, Texas, he began in entertainment by staging talent shows for local clubs before going to Hollywood. His first screen role was the Beast in the silent Is Your Daughter Safe? (1927), and his last was in Girl Crazy (1943). After sound arrived, he specialized in fat man roles and Frank Capra and Orson Welles were among the directors who sought him for small parts. His better-known roles included Jouett Goforth in Cimarron (1931) and the justice of the peace in Woman of the Year (1941). He also had parts in Yours for the Asking, Meet John Doe, The Little Foxes, and The Magnificent Ambersons. He died in 1943.
