Plot summary

Beavis and Butt-Head discover their television has been stolen and try to get another one. The motel they come to offers a set in every room. There they meet Muddy Grimes, who takes them for the hitmen he hired. His job for them: go to Las Vegas and do his wife, Dallas. Butt-Head convinces Beavis the errand is their chance to score and buy a new television. Muddy drives them to the airport. In Las Vegas, Dallas finds them listening at her door and pulls a gun on them. She offers them $20,000 to do Muddy instead, and their argument over who goes first shows her they have misread the arrangement. She plants the stolen X-5 unit, a biological weapon, in Beavis's shorts and instructs them to meet her at the Capitol. The boys board a tour bus.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Beavis and Butt-Head Do America (1996)

Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.

  • Mike Judge eventually admitted that the guitar solo serving as the Beavis and Butt-Head television theme was in fact the solo from AC/DC's "Gone Shootin" played backwards.
  • A deleted scene showing Chelsea Clinton packing up to leave the White House was shot as a backup to the film's scene of Butt-Head meeting her in her bedroom, in case Bill Clinton lost his 1996 reelection bid to Bob Dole; by spring 1996 Mike Judge kept the original scene, confident Clinton would win.
  • Beavis and Butt-Head Do America was first conceived as a live-action film, with Saturday Night Live regulars David Spade and Adam Sandler in mind to play the title characters, before the live-action concept was dropped under pressure from series creator Mike Judge.
  • "Two Cool Guys", written and performed by Isaac Hayes for the soundtrack, is a semi-parody of his Academy Award-winning "Theme from Shaft" that works the Beavis and Butt-Head TV theme in as a rhythm guitar line, with Mike Judge sharing a co-writing credit.
  • The film used an earlier demo of Ozzy Osbourne's "Walk on Water" rather than the revised version on the soundtrack; Osbourne and co-writer Jim Vallance both prefer the demo, which later turned up on Osbourne's Prince of Darkness box set.
  • The film's $20.1 million opening weekend broke the record for the highest December opening weekend, previously held by Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, and Scream 2 took the record a year later.
