Plot summary

Bruce Lee was a martial artist whose path into Hollywood was blocked by racism. In 1971 he went to Hong Kong, where his parents were born, and over two years there he made four features. The documentary takes that period as its subject, along with the questions of identity and representation that came with a career split between two countries. It draws on archival footage, on Lee's own writings and on interviews with people close to him, among them his wife, his daughter, his goddaughter, his brother and a student who was also a friend. That work made him a commercial powerhouse.
