Plot summary
Buck Brannaman spends about forty weeks a year on the road, stopping at ranches to hold clinics and show owners how to read and work with their horses. He is away from his wife and daughters for most of that time. Along the way the story returns to his childhood, when he and his brother were child performers of rope tricks and their father beat them. A football coach who saw the welts on his back and legs helped get him out of the house, and the Shirley family took him in. He later served as the lead equine consultant on The Horse Whisperer.
