Plot summary
In 370 B.C., during the Warring States period, the state of Zhao sends a large army toward Yan, and the small city-state of Liang lies on the border between them. Ge Li, a Mohist known for defensive skill, comes to Liang to help hold the city. The king has already arranged talks with the invaders, but Ge Li warns that surrender would bring disaster and says the Zhao army will withdraw if it cannot take the city within a month, since Yan is its real target. The king doubts him yet hands him command. Ge Li builds ramparts and traps, and names Zituan to lead the archers, which angers Prince Liang Shi, who considers his own archery better. His way of leading sets him against Prince Liang Shi and the city's other generals.
