Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
SPOILER
Sridevi was the first choice to play twin sisters in Baazigar, mirroring Sean Young's dual role in the Hollywood original, but Abbas–Mustan decided her fame would stop audiences sympathising with the protagonist if her character were killed, so they hired two actresses instead.- A string of actors turned down the lead in Baazigar because the character was an antihero: Akshay Kumar refused, reportedly over the negative portrayal, Arbaaz Khan declined for the same reason, and Salman Khan and Anil Kapoor were approached but also said no.
- Composers Nadeem–Shravan were signed to score Baazigar but demanded Kajol be dropped because of personal conflicts with her and her mother Tanuja; Abbas–Mustan refused since Kajol was already cast, and the duo left the film.
- Deepak Tijori brought the A Kiss Before Dying adaptation to Abbas–Mustan and producer Pahlaj Nihalani, who liked it and were open to starring him, but the directors chose Shah Rukh Khan instead and Tijori lost the role.
SPOILER
Two different endings were shot for Baazigar: in one, Ajay is killed by Priya after she discovers his true intentions, and in the other his character is arrested by the police.- The first draft of Baazigar made Shah Rukh Khan's character an out-and-out villain who killed to get rich, shaped by a traumatic childhood with an abusive alcoholic father, before the script was reworked with an emotional backstory to win over audiences.
- A Marathi-language version of the Baazigar soundtrack was also released, and the album sold 10 million units, making it the best-selling Bollywood soundtrack album of 1993.
- The song "Yeh Kaali Kaali Aakhein" won singer Kumar Sanu his fourth consecutive Filmfare Award for Best Male Playback Singer.
