Plot summary
In 13th century Bouzano, Portugal, a peasant mob seizes the Knights Templar, puts out their eyes with torches and burns them for witchcraft and murder. One knight curses the village with a promise of revenge. The town now marks the 500th anniversary of that defeat with a festival. Murdo, the village idiot, watches the preparations until children stone him; Moncha and Juan chase them off. In the square, fireworks technician and former captain Jack Marlowe meets Mayor Duncan, his aide Dacosta, and Vivian, Duncan's fiancee and secretary, who shares a history with Jack and wants to revive it. Murdo spies on Jack and Vivian at the graveyard and warns that the knights will come back. He then kills a kidnapped young woman as a blood sacrifice, and the knights rise.
