Plot summary
Robert Rath works as a contract killer, taking jobs by fax modem and payment by wire transfer. He is haunted by the memory of killing his mentor, Nicolai Tashlinkov, and wants to retire. Sent to kill Alan Branch at a memorial service, he watches a rival gunman finish the job: Miguel Bain, an ambitious newcomer who admires Rath and intends to replace him. Rath's contractor then hands him a lucrative final assignment, a computer hacker named Electra and the disk of stolen data she means to sell to four Dutch buyers. Electra has rigged the building for the sale with hidden cameras and a system that shifts items between rooms.
