Plot summary

Olympus, a city where humans, cyborgs and bioroids, the bio-engineered people, live side by side, is watched over by the elite unit E-SWAT. Deunan Knute belongs to it, and her partner Briareos Hecatonchires is in a hospital recovering from a mission. With Briareos out of the field, Deunan is given Tereus, a bioroid whose face matches Briareos' human form and whose design is drawn largely from Briareos' DNA. Tereus is the first of a planned line of soldier bioroids, built without the emotions that might distort their judgment, and a reluctant Deunan is told to judge how he performs. Terrorist attacks are striking Olympus, four of the last five carried out by groups composed entirely of cyborgs. E-SWAT commander Lance says the attackers may be controlled through signals transmitted to them.
