Plot summary
Cynthia, an environmental lawyer; Anna, a comic; teenage Birdie; and Josh, a novelist attend their parents' twenty-fifth anniversary party. Josh arrives with his fiancée, Liz Nettles, who practices her greetings in a mirror beforehand. Their parents are Ellen, a Georgetown professor, and Paul, a restaurateur. Ellen recognizes Liz as a student who left the university after Ellen challenged the totalitarian ideas in a paper Liz wrote advocating a one-party state. Liz gives Ellen a book she wrote with Josh's help, The Change: The New Social Contract, its cover an American flag whose stars sit at the center. Before departing, Liz speaks to Ellen alone and says she no longer fears her.

- After the film's October 2025 release, Frank Wuliger, a partner at Gersh who represented director Jan Komasa, said he believed Lionsgate "buried" Anniversary "because it is incendiary", while producer Nick Wechsler said it was difficult to market because audiences were "afraid" of political films.
- Filming on Anniversary began in Dublin, Ireland, in July 2023, and although production was initially disrupted by the 2023 WGA/SAG-AFTRA strike, the film was later granted a waiver that let shooting continue.
