Plot summary
At the Daily Nibbler, Tony is kept on small jobs while Tanya works as secretary to the editor, Reed Daley. Mice across New York City are disappearing overnight through holes that open in the floor, and Reed invents a monster said to live under Manhattan because the story sells more papers. Reporter Nellie Brie doubts the creature exists but takes Fievel along to investigate. The tale frightens readers, and Fievel, already losing sleep to nightmares of a beast, is assigned to sketch the monster from witnesses' descriptions. A miniature French poodle named Madame Mousey, newly living among the mice, turns up at each scene claiming to be a fortune teller and selling charms meant to protect them from the night monster.
