Plot summary
Hiro is Master Tetsu's grandnephew, and his granduncle regards him as the final genuine ninja. Master Tetsu sends the boy to learn from Joe Kastle, the American Ninja, who also owns a boat. Hiro has no interest in ninja ways and keeps to his Game Gear. Lisa boards the boat and varnishes it, though the instruction she received was to tarnish it. Over dinner, Viper and a band of multi-colored ninjas abduct her. Joe and Hiro stow away on a flight to Venezuela to get her back.

- American Ninja V was not originally intended as a franchise entry. Cannon Pictures made it as American Dragons, with the working title Little Ninja Man, before retitling it; that is why David Bradley plays Joe rather than the Sean Davidson he played in American Ninja 3 and 4.
