Plot summary
Archive material drives the account: social media posts, home video, text messages and recordings made by law enforcement. Shanann Watts lives in Frederick, Colorado, and documents her days with her two daughters online, filming them and posting about the household. Chris Watts appears in the material as well, giving his own account of the family. Friends and relatives speak on camera about the couple. When Shanann and the children disappear, the messages she sent and the videos she made become the record of what is known. Public theories about the family also circulate, and Shanann's parents and brother, the Rzucek family, describe the rumors and online harassment directed at them.
