Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Dirty Wars (2013)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- While filming in Somalia to meet warlords, Jeremy Scahill and Richard Rowley had to buy kidnap and ransom insurance from a company in another country, because no American insurer would cover them.
- Dirty Wars had no budget: Jeremy Scahill and Richard Rowley first traveled to Afghanistan on money from a grant Scahill had received to support his reporting, and only settled on their subject after looking into JSOC night raids.
- Dirty Wars was not meant to have Jeremy Scahill as narrator or protagonist; David Riker was brought in to help write after an initial four-hour rough cut, and convinced Scahill and Richard Rowley to make the film more personal.
