Plot summary
Apartheid remains the law of South Africa in 1987. Impi and Nkosana are brothers growing up on a farm, the sons of servants to a white family. The owners are liberal and not too particular about racial segregation, and black Africans live relatively well there. A tender bond develops between Impi and the owners' daughter, Elizabeth. The brothers must be on their guard when farmers from neighboring farms visit. One day three racist Boers arrive at the farm.
