- Alaya F was cast in Almost Pyaar with DJ Mohabbat before she made her debut in Jawaani Jaaneman (2020), after Anurag Kashyap watched an eight-minute showreel of hers and was impressed by her acting.
- Anurag Kashyap first wanted DJ Mohabbat to be a mystery voice heard through a podcast, then cast Vicky Kaushal, who had worked with him on Raman Raghav 2.0 and Manmarziyaan, as the character. Kaushal charged no fee for the film.
- Debutant Karan Mehta was cast as the male lead after Anurag Kashyap's daughter found him in a short film released in 2016. Kashyap held workshops and parkour training for his two leads, and because one of them has a lisp, Mehta spent more time with locals in Himachal Pradesh to understand their nuances.
