Plot summary
Alex Truelove, a high school student, has known Claire since their freshman year. The two run a popular web series about animals and both intend to go to Columbia University. In senior year, Claire's mother is in the hospital with cancer. Alex comforts her, and they kiss and start dating. Eight months later, Alex is still a virgin, which embarrasses him in front of his friends, and he is uneasy because Claire has had sex before. The two plan to book a hotel room. At a party, Alex meets Elliot, a teenager who is openly gay.
