Plot summary
For generations the Solé family has worked the same peach orchard in Alcarràs, a Catalan village, harvesting the crop together each summer. The Pinyol family gave them the land as a verbal promise during the Spanish Civil War, and they hold no papers for it. Mr. Pinyol, who now owns it, intends to uproot the trees and put in solar panels, which would end the family's way of life. Quimet, the hot-tempered patriarch, insists the land is theirs by right and means to bring in the harvest and stay. His wife, Dolors, tries to hold the household together. Their teenagers, Roger and Mariona, have plans of their own: Roger wants to grow cannabis, Mariona rehearses for the village pageant. The younger cousins, Iris, Pau, and Pere, play among the trees.
