Plot summary
Louise Farnt, a meek young Englishwoman, has poor self-esteem and lives with a mother who browbeats her. She follows several self-help teachers, above all Chuck Knoah. At one lecture she notices a middle-aged woman who then vanishes. They meet later, and the woman introduces herself as Val Stone, a self-help teacher who thinks Louise would suit her. Val invites Louise to a caravan park and describes a road trip of discovery that will visit self-help gurus for research. Louise decides to leave home, and the next day the two drive off.
