Plot summary
The basket weaver Maila lives in a village in the mountains of eastern Nepal with his wife Maile and their seven-year-old son Bindray. A road reaches their village at last, and the family takes it as a blessing. With the arrival of the first bus to the village come soda, a television and hip hop beats. As the modern amenities creep into the village, Maila is pulled between the traditions he keeps at home and the need to make a living beyond the village. Bindray, meanwhile, puts his resourcefulness to work, drawing closer to the gifts that the road has brought within reach.
