Plot summary
In postwar Casablanca, Ronald Kornblow, a former motel proprietor, is hired to manage the Hotel Casablanca, where every previous manager has been murdered. He does not know that nobody else would take the job, or that the escaped Nazi war criminal Heinrich Stubel, posing as Count Pfefferman, has been killing the managers so he can run the hotel himself and recover the stolen art treasures hidden inside it. Corbaccio, the owner of the Yellow Camel company, appoints himself Kornblow's bodyguard with help from Stubel's valet Rusty, and Stubel sends Beatrice Reiner to romance the new manager. French soldier Pierre, accused of collaborating with the enemy, tries to clear his name with his girlfriend Annette.

- The original storyline was intended as a direct parody of Casablanca, with characters whose names sounded like those in the 1942 film; Groucho Marx said an early draft named his character "Humphrey Bogus". Warner Bros. never litigated or threatened to, but did issue a formal inquiry about the plot and script.
- The Marx Brothers exploited the situation for publicity, making it appear that a frivolous lawsuit was in the works, and Groucho sent several open letters to Warner Bros. to get newspaper coverage. He later donated those letters to the Library of Congress and reprinted them in his 1967 book The Groucho Letters.
- Producer David Loew told the Hollywood Reporter he had reached an arbitration agreement with Warner Bros. to use the title Adventures in Casablanca. The film was eventually retitled A Night in Casablanca, and the Brothers publicized the change with advertisements listing joke titles.
