Plot summary
At his sister Arundhathi's wedding, relatives tell Naveen he is next in line to marry. Six years later he is still single, a doctor whose shyness keeps him from romance. At a temple he is surprised to find a white man; he meets him again at work and learns he is Jay, a photographer. Jay asks him to a movie, the Bollywood film Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge, and says an Indian immigrant couple adopted him after foster care and have since died. The two become close and move in together, though Naveen delays introducing Jay to his family.
