Plot summary
The survivors of a worldwide biological war live in small cement modules, cut off from one another. A computer in each module connects its occupant to work, food and entertainment, and some people control drones that survey the outside world and capture humans. Darwin's mother leaves him in a pod as a boy and promises to come back for him. Nine years later, a lightning strike drains his module and its alarm of power, and he is forced out into the real world.
