Plot summary

Jack, an American interior designer, lives in New York City with his girlfriend Marion, a French-born photographer. They hoped a trip to Venice would restore the romance in their relationship, but both came down with gastroenteritis. They take an overnight train to Paris to collect Marion's cat from her parents, planning to stay two days. Jack is unsettled to learn that Marion has stayed in contact with a number of former lovers, and the language barrier with her parents and the old flames they keep meeting wear on him. Marion wrestles with her own doubts about love, about relationships and about her impulsive nature.
