Plot summary
In Los Angeles, Elgin and David lead a street dance crew with Rico, Rashaan and Sonny, battling other groups for money and respect at a warehouse owned by Mr. Rad. The friends pay their way as runners for Emerald, a drug lord. Rico mentors a young dancer nicknamed Lil Saint. When Wade, a wealthy dancer from Orange County, and his friend Max challenge them to a $5,000 battle, Elgin accepts and borrows money from his grandmother to cover the stake. The crew discusses how to split such winnings, with Sonny wanting an even division and the others backing Elgin and David because they put up the money. David, meanwhile, is drawn to Elgin's sister Liyah, a medical student.
