Plot summary
A star at the University of Maryland who the Boston Celtics take in the 1986 NBA Draft, Len Bias dies two days later of a cocaine overdose. The documentary gathers his teammates, friends and family, along with sport journalists, to look back at his college career and to give first-hand accounts of his final hours. It also follows what came after: the public outcry over his death influenced drug policy in the mid-1980s, and the mandatory minimum sentences that followed still shape how later generations are punished. It asks how good Bias might have been among professionals, and whether his fatal night came after one use of cocaine or a longer pattern of recreational use.
