Plot summary
The film begins from the filmmaker's own experience of postpartum anxiety, depression and psychosis and asks what connects women's mental health conditions to accusations of witchcraft through history. Friends who have had similar experiences give interviews, and their accounts sit alongside hers. Around that testimony the film arranges extracts from more than a century of cinema in which witches and mentally ill women appear, taking in Häxan, The Passion of Joan of Arc, The Wizard of Oz, Day of Wrath, Rosemary's Baby, The Devils, The Craft, The Crucible, The Love Witch, Tully and The Witch. The clips run from the 1920s to the 2020s.
