Plot summary

A Paris designer little known outside France takes on his first major American project: the Starck Club, which opens in Dallas in 1984. The city is expanding on an economic boom and drawing people from around the world, and the 1984 Republican National Convention comes to Dallas not long after the club's doors open. Inside, MDMA, or ecstasy, can be bought legally and paid for with a credit card. In July 1985 the Drug Enforcement Administration places the substance in its most restricted category. New wave acts pass through the club, among them Dead or Alive, Book of Love, Depeche Mode, Grace Jones, Edie Brickell and the Red Hot Chili Peppers. The documentary follows the club's influence on designers, DJs, fashion and the root of the rave and techno scene.
