Plot summary
The film lays out allegations that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention manipulated and destroyed data from a 2004 study of the MMR vaccine and autism. It builds its case around Brian Hooker, an anti-vaccination activist, and his paper describing what he says a senior CDC scientist, William Thompson, told him about the study. The film features excerpts from calls between Hooker and Thompson that were recorded without Thompson's knowledge. Thompson does not appear in the film. The documentary also presents parents who believe their children developed autism after receiving the MMR vaccine. It argues that the CDC has concealed a link between the vaccine and autism in African-American boys.

- Vaxxed was scheduled to premiere at the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival but the festival withdrew it after public outcry and widespread criticism. Co-founder Robert De Niro had defended the screening, calling the film very personal to him because he has an autistic child, then announced it would not screen.
- Vaxxed was directed by Andrew Wakefield, who in 1998 co-published a fraudulent Lancet study falsely claiming the MMR vaccine caused autism; the study was retracted in 2010 and Wakefield was struck off the UK medical register over ethical violations, failure to disclose financial conflicts of interest and inventing evidence.
