Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Vampire's Kiss (1988)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Nicolas Cage ate a live cockroach on camera in an unscripted change from the raw egg Joseph Minion's screenplay called for; director Robert Bierman also approved his Transatlantic accent, inspired by Cage's father.
- Dennis Quaid was attached to play Peter Loew but left for Innerspace (1987); Nicolas Cage briefly accepted the part, quit when Joseph Minion didn't direct, then returned after the producers persisted, taking a reduced $40,000 fee.
- The film developed a cult following largely because of Cage's "scorched-earth acting", which became a source of many Internet memes.
- Joseph Minion wrote the screenplay in January 1986 during two weeks alone in a Barbados hotel room, encouraged by his girlfriend, producer Barbara Zitwer, while recovering from his debut feature After Hours (1985).
- Post-production ran short of money: the orchestral score was recorded in Budapest to cut costs, the final sound mix was paid for with borrowed funds, and some scenes were trimmed at the distributor's request.
