Plot summary
Fang Xiaoxiao and Lin Jianqing come from the same rural town, and they become friends while traveling home during the Spring Festival. Both are in Beijing trying to find success: Jianqing hopes to make games but is short of money and time, and Xiaoxiao lives with her boyfriend until an issue with his mother makes her leave. She moves into Jianqing's room in a housing complex, and the two make money selling computer software. At a New Year party Jianqing spends heavily to impress his friends back home, and his father tells him he does not need to act rich. A decade later they run into each other again, and a delayed flight leaves them rooming together for a night.

- At the 2018 Cannes Film Festival, Netflix bought exclusive rights to Us and Them everywhere outside China, and after its June 22, 2018 release director Rene Liu said she was honored the film was chosen as Netflix's first Chinese-language original film.
