Plot summary
Alex Grazier is a correspondent who is giving up foreign conflicts to take a news anchor job in New York. His friend Russell Price, a photojournalist, and Claire Stryder, Alex's girlfriend, are both in Nicaragua in 1979, where the press corps is covering the fight between President Somoza's government and rebels loyal to Rafael, a leader who has never been photographed. Russell and Claire are having an affair. He is arrested and held overnight, and Marcel Jazy, a Frenchman close to Somoza, tells them Rafael can be found in León, though the press corps thinks the fighting is moving to Masaya.

- The story grew out of a real killing: Nicaraguan National Guard troops shot ABC reporter Bill Stewart and his translator on 20 June 1979 while ABC cameraman Jack Clark happened to be filming. The tape aired across America and helped finish Anastasio Somoza, whose regime fell on 19 July.
