Plot summary
René Chaplin, a beauty pageant winner in the small fishing town of Berkeley, has lost her family farm to the bank and intends to head for the city. Before she can leave, meteorites rain down nearby and the townspeople rise as zombies. René takes cover in an isolated farmhouse belonging to Marion, a gun enthusiast whose neighbors call him the town loony and who says aliens once abducted him. Four other survivors gather there, and Marion's cache of guns and his basement fallout shelter give the group a place to hold out, though he never stocked it with food or water.
