Plot summary
Carter rents a house for a Halloween weekend with seven friends: Maddie, Tyler, Alex, Jessie, Addison, Holt and Luke. He tells them the place turned haunted in 1983, when seven teenagers played truth or dare there, all but one died, and the survivor vanished. Carter gets everyone to play. Maddie is asked whether she slept with Tyler, Alex's boyfriend; she tries to lie, and a group text makes her tell the truth. Tyler's dare sends him onto a hot stove, where a chair moves on its own and leaves his hand badly burned. The players learn they have 48 hours to finish three rounds, and that a dare refused is a dare that turns on them.

- Heather Langenkamp, a longtime friend of writer Thommy Hutson, was approached to play the grown Donna Boone. Before filming she had a life cast made of her face for Donna's disfigurement, and worked with Hutson to give the character habits, deciding Donna did jigsaw puzzles to cope with her loneliness.
