Plot summary
Kimberly Rivers Roberts, 24, lives in the Ninth Ward of New Orleans and makes rap music. With a new video camera she films her own block on the day before Hurricane Katrina reaches the city, and she keeps recording on the morning of the storm, when she and her neighbors are trapped in an attic. It opens at a Red Cross shelter in Central Louisiana with Kimberly and her husband Scott, then flashes back two weeks. Kimberly's tapes are combined with news broadcasts from the time, other home videos, and material gathered over the next two years. Questions of race and class, and how the government relates to its citizens, are also part of the account.
