Plot summary
Ranjit farms land in Jharkhand, India, and has a 13-year-old daughter. After she is raped, the case turns on who is allowed to decide what happens next: the community or a criminal court. Women and men in the village insist that the community itself should solve the issue, and they press for a forced marriage to the girl to remove what they call the stain on her. Ranjit rejects that settlement and demands justice through the courts, standing behind his daughter, a choice that is virtually unheard of for a father in his position. The documentary stays close to the family in their village, at home and in the fields.
