Plot summary

An earthquake opens a hidden chamber in Tutankhamun's tomb, where Professor Douglas McCadden finds a sarcophagus holding a wrapped body that is no dead Egyptian king but a sleeping traveler from another world, coated in dormant green fungus. The coffin of Ankh Venharis is shipped to the California Institute of the Sciences. There student Peter Sharpe spots five crystals in the X-ray films, pockets them, and makes new plates, dosing the body with far more radiation than before. The fungus stirs and the figure rises. At a press conference a student touches the mold and is hurt, and the coffin is opened to show it empty. President Wendell Rossmore orders the campus police to recover the missing mummy, while the revived figure goes after the stolen stones.
