Plot summary
At their mother Barbara's request, brothers Luke, Taylor and Stephan gather at her house for Christmas. The three have grown apart since their father left when they were children. Stephan works as an animal therapist and has a social phobia and a cleanliness obsession; Taylor lives in the basement and has just quit his job; Luke, a firefighter, puts others before his own house. One afternoon Luke finds a baby at the fire station door with a note naming the child Thomas and asking Luke to care for him until Christmas. He brings the baby to Barbara's house. When Barbara leaves to help an aunt who has had an accident and a concussion, a snowstorm prevents her return, leaving the brothers to look after Thomas and decorate the house themselves.
