Plot summary
A renowned surgeon of Jewish origins, Simone Segre lives in an elegant apartment in a city in north-eastern Italy, and his past stays out of his daily life. One day he comes to the aid of a man who has been the victim of a hit-and-run accident, and on seeing a nazi tattoo on the man's chest he abandons him. Guilt takes hold of Simone, and he goes looking for the family the man left behind: the eldest daughter Marica, Marcello, a teenager full of racial hate, and little Paolo.
