Plot summary
Dorothy Stang, born in Dayton, Ohio, was a member of the Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur. She was 73 when she was killed in Anapu, in Brazil's Pará state, shot six times at close range on February 12, 2005. The documentary examines the reasons for her death. For three decades she had worked to preserve the Amazon rainforest, siding with environmentalists and poorer local communities against loggers and large landowners. Her killing led to a court case, and the film follows that trial near the mouth of the Amazon River, where the larger struggle over the future of the rainforest is being fought.
