Plot summary
Mary Fiore is an ambitious wedding planner in San Francisco who hopes her boss, Geri, will make her a partner. Her father, Salvatore, introduces her to Massimo, a childhood acquaintance he wants her to marry, and Mary declines. She is hired to plan a society wedding for heiress Fran Donolly. While on the phone with her colleague Penny, one of Mary's heels catches in a manhole cover, and a taxicab sends a dumpster toward her. A stranger drags her clear, and she faints. She wakes in a hospital and meets her rescuer, pediatrician Steve Edison.

- The original actors set to play Mary and Steve were Jennifer Love Hewitt and Brendan Fraser, who were replaced with Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr.; both couples eventually dropped out over scheduling conflicts with Buffy the Vampire Slayer for Gellar, leaving Lopez and McConaughey as the eventual stars.
- Lopez's second album J.Lo reached number one on the Billboard 200 in the same week, making Lopez the first entertainer to achieve a number-one album and a number-one film simultaneously in the same week.
