Plot summary
Lafcadia rides at the head of a band of warriors who serve a merciless lord in the desert plains of feudal India, and his young son lives with him. The son has befriended the daughter of a traveling cloth merchant; she tied a ceremonial thread on his wrist and he gave her his amulet. When a village fails to pay its harvest tax, the lord orders Lafcadia and his men to raze it. In the burning village he attempts to kill a girl fleeing with her mother, then stops: his son's amulet hangs around her neck. He spares them both and abandons his life as a warrior, setting out with his son for his ancestral home in the Himalayas. The lord, taking this as betrayal, orders his second-in-command to hunt him down.

- The Warrior was shortlisted as the UK's official entry for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film, but the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences disqualified it because it was neither set in nor filmed in a language indigenous to the UK. Britain's official Oscar entry instead went to the Welsh-language film Eldra.
- Asif Kapadia's Hindi-language film The Warrior, in which Irrfan Khan plays a feudal Rajasthan warrior trying to give up the sword, is credited with convincing Khan not to give up on his acting career.
