Plot summary
A demon in the shape of a woman kills Father Dennis at his New Orleans church, and St. Agnes closes. Years afterward, Father Michael survives a fall unharmed while talking a man down from a hotel window, and Archbishop Mosely sends him to St. Agnes. Lieutenant Stern tells him that another priest died in the rectory before Dennis. In the dead priest's journal Michael comes across the name of Millie, and he calls on her at the Threshold, where she works and where magic acts are staged. She later comes to the parish and says she confessed to Dennis that she had pledged her soul to Luke, who runs the club, and that she believes he is the Devil incarnate. Luke comes to Michael, saying the shows are only gimmicks, yet asks for help with disturbances at his apartment.
