Plot summary
In 2005, Cybertron belongs to the Decepticons, and the Autobots run their counteroffensive from the planet's two moons. Optimus Prime sends a supply shuttle to Autobot City on Earth; the Decepticons learn of the trip and take the ship for themselves. At Autobot City, Hot Rod is fishing with Daniel Witwicky, the son of the Autobot ally Spike Witwicky, when the shuttle comes in. Hot Rod spots the intruders and fights back, and the battle for the city begins. Meanwhile, in space, Unicron, a transformer the size of a planet who devours worlds, wants the Matrix of Leadership, the one power that can destroy him.

- The Transformers: The Movie was the final film featuring Orson Welles, who spent 5 October 1985 performing Unicron's voice and died on 10 October. His voice was so weak that technicians ran it through a synthesizer, and he read so slowly that the audio had to be sped up about eight percent.

- 'The Touch' later turned up in Paul Thomas Anderson's 1997 film Boogie Nights, performed by Mark Wahlberg's character Dirk Diggler, and that performance appears as a hidden track on the soundtrack album.
