Plot summary
In 1922, somewhere in the Australian outback, an Aboriginal man stands accused of the murder of a white woman. Three white men are sent to capture him. They are The Fanatic, a colonial policeman, The Follower and The Veteran. The Tracker, an experienced Indigenous man, is brought along to help them find the accused, The Fugitive, and he leads the group into the outback.

- Rather than stage the killings, de Heer hired the South Australian artist Peter Coad to paint them: Coad spent a month at Arkaroola beforehand and made 14 paintings, each done on location in the film's 1:2 ratio, which are cut into the picture where the violence would be.
