Plot summary
An elderly woman with a burned face murders a farmer and sets his barn alight, then makes her way home to her family. The older couple and the young woman who live there argue over what to do next, and their talk suggests the woman may have killed before. Elsewhere, Jodie, a young man on an open-ended drive across America, is trying to decide whether to follow his father into law. He stops at a small pond for lunch and meets Melissa, who persuades him to visit her family's walnut farm despite her parents' distress at the offer. Jodie and Melissa grow closer, and she begins to tell him about her family's dark history while the elderly woman remains in the house.

- The Touch of Satan stayed obscure, playing only drive-in theaters and dollar movie houses, until a 1998 appearance on the movie-mocking series Mystery Science Theater 3000 brought it to a far wider audience.
- Jordan Cronenweth, later famed for shooting 1982's Blade Runner, was then mainly a camera operator for Conrad Hall, and The Touch of Satan would have been his first feature as cinematographer but for release delays that let Robert Altman's Brewster McCloud (1970) come out first.
