Plot summary
After a plague kills off most of humanity, the survivors have fortified themselves in a bunker beneath the Rocky Mountains, and mutants roam the land above. The bunker is humanity's last stronghold, and the mutants want it destroyed. The colony can produce a vaccine against a disease the mutants spread, but the ingredients for it can only be gathered on the surface. David is a scientist at the colony, and he is sent up to collect them. There he meets a pregnant woman. He tries to bring her and the ingredients back, and the trip draws an attack on the way.
